White House Press Secretary Jan Psaki announced Sunday that she has tested positive for COVID-19, just a handful of days after last meeting with President Joe Biden.

Psaki last met with the president on Tuesday when she was masked and outside, claiming to have been 6-feet away from Biden. She did not make the international trip with Biden.

Psaki issued this statement Sunday.

“On Wednesday, in coordination with senior leadership at the White House and the medical team, I made the decision not to travel on the foreign trip with the President due to a family emergency, which was members of my household testing positive for COVID-19,” Psaki stated. “Since then, I have quarantined and tested negative (via PCR) for COVID on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. However, today, I tested positive for COVID.”

Biden has already met with Pope Francis and several world leaders on his trip to Italy and other European countries. The first stop this week was Rome, where he met the pope while getting ready for the G20 summit.

As for Psaki, she said she has been fully vaccinated and that she plans to work from home for the time being.

“I will plan to return to work in person at the conclusion of the ten day quarantine following a negative rapid test, which is an additional White House requirement, beyond CDC guidance, taken out of an abundance of caution,” Psaki added.

“I last saw the President on Tuesday, when we sat outside more than six-feet apart, and wore masks,” Psaki continued. “Thanks to the vaccine, I have only experienced mild symptoms which has enabled me to continue working from home. I will plan to return to work in person at the conclusion of the ten day quarantine following a negative rapid test, which is an additional White House requirement, beyond CDC guidance, taken out of an abundance of caution.”

On Monday, just before his last meeting with Psaki before the European trip, Biden coughed into his hand and then went on to shake people’s hands. Biden was not wearing a mask during this event either, per this video from Twitter.

Biden, going back to his lengthy campaign in 2020 and different circumstances so far in 2021, has often been around other folks in close quarters who went on to test positive for COVID-19. There have been no reports of the president contracting the virus, though.

This is a developing story.
