The Dallas Cowboys haven’t beaten the New England Patriots in the Bill Belichick era.
Of course, those games – 0-5 vs. the Patriots since 2003 – coincide with the Tom Brady era, and the future Hall of Fame quarterback took his talents to Tampa Bay last season.
Dallas’ overall losing streak of six games goes back to 1999, with the Cowboys’ most recent victory coming in 1996, the last time they were defending Super Bowl champs.
Beating a six-time Super Bowl winner in Belichick would give the Cowboys another reason to believe they’re building something after going 8-8 and 6-10 the past two seasons.
With quarterback Dak Prescott back from his 2020 season-ending injury – 1,368 yards, 13 touchdowns, three interceptions, 73.9% completion rate and a 116.9 quarterback rating – Dallas (4-1) is leading the NFC East by two games going into Sunday’s game at Gillette Stadium.
Gruden fallout: Being bold has always been the Raider way. Not anymore.
Week 5 Power Rankings: Bills return to top five, undefeated Cardinals remain on top
New England will be looking for its first home victory of the season (0-3) Sunday. The Patriots have never started a season 0-4 at home under Belichick.
Patriots QB Mac Jones has 135 completions this season, tying him with Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow for the most by a rookie in his first five starts in NFL history. But Jones also has five interceptions in five games, and the Cowboys have at least one interception in eight consecutive games.
Trevon Diggs has an NFL-leading six with at least one in all five games this season. Anthony Brown’s 45-yard interception return for a touchdown last week extended Dallas’ league-best streak of games with at least two takeaways to nine going back to last season.
